Sunday afternoon's high temperature reached 91 degrees, and broke the previous record high for the date of 89 degrees set in 1998.

The high also tied the Mothers Day mark for any second Sunday in May. The only other time it was 90 or hotter on Mothers Day in Paducah was 91 degrees in 1995.

Sunday was also the first 90-degree day of the year in Paducah. The average day that Paducah first reaches 90 degrees is May 30.

Over 60 of Paducah's previous Mothers Days since records were kept in Paducah in 1937 have enjoyed temperatures in the 70s or 80s, in line with Paducah's average high of 77 degrees during this week of the year.

Monday and Tuesday afternoons are expected to be the hottest of the week at around 93 degrees. Heat index readings could be in the mid to upper 90s each afternoon.
