District technology coordinator Reta Renfrow said, “Technology is such a large part of student learning now, and we want to continue to offer our students the best experience we can. We’re trying to prepare them not just for what they’re doing here today, but what they’ll be doing in the real world in the future.”
The district recently upgraded wi-fi coverage on the main campus, in anticipation of offering some kind of pilot program for students to bring their own devices to tie into the district network.
Renfrow said that anyone interested in the job should be aware that he or she would need at least two years of successful experience setting up, supporting, and maintaining desktop computers in a large-scale LAN environment with many users. The new person will be installing and configuring various computer, peripheral and software resources in classroom and office settings, will troubleshoot and repair system problems, and maintain system operations. Another important task will be responding to requests from users of various technical skill levels for general help and in correcting hardware and software problems.
Renfrow said he or she also would need to be able to research, study and test applications to make sure they were compatible with existing systems, and be able to keep logs, records and inventory lists of the district’s hardware and software.
