Two women were arrested Saturday in Ballard County on shoplifting and drug charges.

The Ballard County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a shoplifter at the Dollar General in Wickliffe where 44-year-old Marcy Redden was being detained inside the store. They learned Redden had allegedly tried to walk out of the store with a package of bacon and hamburger meat.

Deputies also located Redden's friend, 62-year-old Donna Harper, outside. When asked to empty her pockets, Harper reportedly had a small bag that deputies said appeared to be methamphetamine.

During a search of Harper's car, a glass pipe was found inside the glove box believed to be used for smoking methamphetamine.

Both women were arrested and booked into the Ballard County Jail.

Harper and Redden were charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence. Redden also faces a shoplifting charge, and Harper was charged with resisting arrest and complicity to shoplifting.
