A Cadiz police officer was hit by a car Monday afternoon while directing traffic.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to Main Street in front of Trigg County High School at 3:38 p.m.

Police said 72-year-old George Hicks of Cadiz was driving east on Main Street when he struck David Colbert, the officer who was directing school traffic. Colbert was taken by ambulance to Trigg County Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Heavy rain and decreased visibility are believed to be factors in the collision. Police say they don't anticipate criminal charges will be filed.
