Calloway County Sheriff Sam Steger announced he will resign from his position on Monday, August 17.
Steger told the Murray Ledger & Times that the decision was made due to an opportunity that opened up with his family's farm in Christian County.
Steger said he didn't plan to seek another term as sheriff because of plans to become more involved with the family farm. However, he said he became aware of an opportunity with the farm and felt the need to act on it as soon as possible.
According to Steger, Calloway County Judge-Executive Kenny Imes will appoint an interim sheriff soon.
