The campaign, which will run from May 20 through June 2, is a seat belt enforcement initiative that includes highly visible enforcement to ensure drivers and their passengers are buckled up.
“The Click It or Ticket campaign is so important because it raises awareness about seat belt safety during the time period when seat belts are least used,” said KSP Captain Jerry Handy, Post 1 Commander. “With an increased number of cars on Kentucky highways during the Memorial Day holiday, it’s imperative we get the word out about the importance of seat belt safety.”
According to a KSP press release, of the 725 highway fatalities last year in Kentucky, nearly 53 percent were not wearing a seat belt. KSP post 1 had 44 fatalities last year, 54 percent of whom were not wearing a seat belt.
