A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has resumed work on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at the Livingston-Marshall county line.

The contractor, American Contracting and Services of Jeffersonville, Indiana, has now resumed work, but it make take several weeks before they can even estimate when work will be completed.

Traffic in both directions has been restricted to one lane at the 30 mile marker for several months to allow joint work on the bridge, but the contractor encountered several engineering issues while new joints were being fabricated.

Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said the contractor is paying a substantial penalty for going past the contracted completion date for the $1.1 million project.

A number of overnight closures will be required as the new joints are installed on both bridges. Drivers will be notified in advance of those closures.
