Cristobal is now downgraded to a tropical depression with 35-mph winds. The heaviest remnants are still forecast to move from Louisiana and Arkansas today into Missouri overnight Tuesday. From there it will veer slightly eastward as it passes over St. Louis toward the Great Lakes by Wednesday.
The greatest rainfall amounts look to be 3-4 inches in central Missouri, where a flash flood watch is in effect. Multiple bands of thunderstorms will fan out into our region Tuesday, with two to three inches are forecast in the Poplar Bluff area, tapering to a couple of inches for Cape Girardeau and Sikeston.
Most of western Kentucky and southern Illinois is expected to get about an inch of rain, with a bit more possible in northwest Tennessee.
There will be a chance for a few strong storms Tuesday, especially along and east of the Mississippi River. A couple of weak, brief tornadoes cannot be ruled out, as winds and wind shear increase. The Storm Prediction Center outlook puts our area at a Marginal Risk, 1 on a scale of 5 for severe storms.
