Meteorologists at Barkley Field recorded temperatures that were 4 to 5 degrees warmer than average for the month across the region. In fact, the December average was exactly the same as the November average in Evansville, and nearly the same in Paducah. December is usually about 11 degrees colder than November.
In another oddity for Paducah, the last day of the month was the warmest, at 68 degrees on New Year's Eve. The coldest morning occurred on December 11 at 19 degrees.
Rainfall was fairly consistent region wide, mostly in the 4- and 5-inch range for the month. Many regions east of the lakes saw about 6 inches, with nearly 7 inches in the Fort Campbell area.
Paducah only managed a trace of snow in December, while Evansville saw 1.1 inches of snow. Both figures were about two inches short of the average monthly total.
