The man charged with the murder of two women Thursday night in Murray appeared in court on Monday.

According to the Calloway Circuit Court Clerk, 51-year-old Shannon Scott was arraigned and bond remains at $2 million.

The judge scheduled a preliminary hearing for 9:30 am on February 20.

However, the next Calloway County Grand Jury is set to convene on Friday, and they could hear the case against Scott. For now, he's charged with two counts of murder, and one count each of first-degree burglary, tampering with physical evidence and animal cruelty.

Police say Scott forced his way into the home on Catalina Drive where his girlfriend, 37-year-old Tera Todd, lived with and took care of 77-year-old Evelyn Scott. Police told KFVS-TV that it appears Shannon Scott stabbed Todd several times, then slit Evelyn Scott's throat and strangled a small dog that belonged to one of the women.

Todd reportedly fled the home and went for help at a neighbor's home, but collapsed near their garage. Police were called to the scene when she was discovered, and when they went next door they found Evelyn Scott dead, and Shannon Scott in the bathroom with blood on his hands.

Shannon and Evelyn Scott are not related, according to police.
