The Murray State Board of Regents has voted not to extend the contract of President Randy Dunn and begin a search for a new president of the southwestern Kentucky school.

The 7-4 vote came Friday afternoon and will bring Dunn's tenure to an end June 30, 2014.

The university tapped Dunn as its 11th president in May of 2006 and he took over the job on Dec. 1, 2006. Before arriving at Murray State, Dunn served as the State Superintendent of Education for the Illinois State Board of Education.

In 2012, Dunn interviewed for the presidency of Missouri State University and interviewed to become the next Florida Commissioner of Education.
