A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge on Thursday and Saturday.

KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd said the bridge will be restricted to one lane starting at around 7:00 am both days to facilitate the pouring of concrete for construction of Pier 8 and Pier 9 on the new bridge.  Concrete trucks have to park on one lane of the old bridge to deliver concrete to the work site for the new structure.

Todd said motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours on Thursday and Saturday. Caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

The daytime work zone lane restriction on the Eggners Ferry Bridge is expected to be in place for about 6 to 8 hours on Thursday and Saturday.  Delays to traffic at this site have reportedly been fairly minor, generally less than 5 minutes.

Additionally, the contractor will be pouring concrete on the Pier 1 footer seal of the new bridge on Friday, January 30th. Todd said this pour will will not require a lane restriction on the existing bridge, however the amount of concrete that will have to be delivered to the site will generate a lot of truck traffic in and out of the work zone throughout the day Friday.
