The culvert, about ½-mile north of the intersection with KY 1290, was damaged during flash flooding early this year. The culvert continued to deteriorate during heavier than normal rainfall through the summer.
According to Ballard County Judge-Executive Todd Cooper, plans to replace the ailing culvert are already progressing.
“This section of Adkins Dixon Road carries a lot of farm and agri-business traffic. It is one of our more well-traveled county roads. Our county road crew has been checking the existing culvert daily and making repairs as needed to keep the road open,” Judge Cooper said. “We are very appreciative of the Transportation Cabinet and the assistance they are providing to our county to meet this need.”
The county has ordered a new aluminum pre-fab arch structure to replace the ailing 8 ft. by 52 ft culvert. Cooper expects delivery within a few weeks and once work begins, assembling the new arch, tearing out the old culvert and install the new one should take about a week.
