A man charged in connection with a fatal dog attack appeared in court on Wednesday.

According to the Marshall County District Court Clerk, Daniel Kai Alexander was in court facing a felony charge of tampering with physical evidence, and a misdemeanor charge of failure to notify authorities of the discovery or possession of a dead body. At the preliminary hearing, the judge ruled that there was sufficient evidence to bind the case over to a Marshall County Grand Jury. It is scheduled to convene again on August 13.

Alexander was arrested July 3 after an investigation into a body found on June 29 near McCoy Lane in Gilbertsville. Preliminary autopsy results from the state medical examiner's office showed that Brian S. Butler died from a dog attack.

State Police say two pit bulls were found in the area, Alexander tampered with evidence at the scene, and that he had knowledge of Butler's body, but didn't report it to authorities.

The court clerk said new warrants were served on Wednesday for a charge of harboring a vicious animal. Alexander, who is out on bond, was served, along with 46-year-old Tonya Marie Wilson of Gilbertsville. An arraignment on these charges is set for August 14.
