The non-profit group called 'Asian Carp Aid', is working to raise awareness and find solutions to the invasive species that can alter the food chain of new environments and endanger other species.
The group held a meeting at Kentucky Dam Village on Tuesday, October 29, where according to those involved with the event, approximately 180 people attended. The group is seeking to create a festival which will not only raise awareness of the issue, but also raise funds to go towards efforts to combat the problem.
Matt Quinn, the founder of the group, spoke with WKDZ about the event, saying, "we've been talking about asian carp for quite some time. Kentucky fish and wildlife for the last 12 years has been working to come up with a plan to eradicate those fish and I just felt like there was a community thing we needed to do to bring everybody together produce a festival, raise some funds."
According to WKDZ, during the meeting Quinn presented ideas for the festival and asked those that attended to sign up for various committees they could help within. Some of the Committees included entertainment, organizing a meal, sporting activities, and others.
Quinn hopes the committees will come together to create a festival that would take place at some point in June of 2020 within Marshall County.
