Former Hickman County Sheriff Mark Green has entered an Alford plea in court to an attempted theft charge.

Court records show Green entered the plea Thursday to one misdemeanor count of attempted theft by failure to make required disposition of property less than $10,000.

Green was originally indicted in March on a charge of abuse of public trust, which is a felony. That charge stemmed from an investigation by Kentucky State Police into missing funds from an account to which Green had access.

An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him in court.

The prosecutor in the case recommended a six month jail sentence for Green. Formal sentencing is set for Aug. 1.
