The Commonwealth's Attorney for Marshall County has responded to a motion filed Monday requesting a change of venue in the case of accused Marshall County High School shooter Gabriel Parker.

Parker's legal team cited news media coverage and social media discussion as reasons for the request in Marshall County Circuit Court.

Commonwealth's Attorney Dennis Foust asked the judge to deny the motion, but if the motion is granted, he asked that Christian County be chosen as the alternate venue.

Foust's response states that a location any farther than that would be a hardship on the victims and their families, possibly requiring overnight lodging. He added that some witnesses in the trial - doctors and nurses from Vanderbilt Medical Center - would have to drive no farther than those from Marshall or McCracken Counties.

Foust said moving the trial to Daviess or Warren County would be more inconvenient for everyone.

A hearing on the motion is set for May 17 in Marshall County Circuit Court.
