Frequent Rains Into Next Week Could Be Heavy

The National Weather Service office in Paducah warns that strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today, and unsettled weather will continue through Saturday. Widespread rainfall totals of 1.5 to 2.5 inches are possible through Saturday, with locally higher amount possible.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are forecast today into tonight. Some of these storms may become strong to severe, with hail and damaging winds. Otherwise, heavy rain and lightning will accompany the storms.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Friday and Saturday. More thunderstorms are forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday. Heavy rain and lightning will be the primary storm hazards.

Flooding will continue on several area rivers. The Mississippi River will reach major flood levels at Cape Girardeau by the weekend, from upstream runoff the upper Midwest that has reached near record levels in Iowa and northern Missouri.
