A fireworks display that had been moved back to Labor Day weekend due to the pandemic has now been canceled completely.

Friends of Lake Barkley announced in mid-June that their display in Cadiz was going to be on September 6 instead of July 4.

However, at their most recent meeting, the organization voted to cancel the event due to the continuing pandemic and the increasing number of COVID-19 cases.  Although Labor Day weekend is still almost two months away, the uncertainty of the situation led the group to cancel.

President Jim Mullen said the organization didn't want to risk the money they would spend on fireworks and other details, with the possibility that gatherings could not be held.

The group said they anticipate resuming their annual fireworks display next summer.
