After weeks of steady declines, the price of gasoline in Paducah quietly slipped below two dollars per gallon in at least one location this week.

As of Friday morning, gas at Sam's Club in Paducah was reported by Gasbuddy.com to be 1.98. Several other Paducah gas stations checked in with 2.01 and up.

Danville was the only city in Kentucky with a lower price on Friday, at 1.97. Owensboro also showed gas available there at 1.99 for the only sub-$2 spots in the state.

Other western Kentucky gas prices Friday included Murray at 2.03; Benton 2.06; Mayfield 2.07; and Eddyville 2.12.

The trend is not unusual for January when travel decreases and gasoline inventories are stockpiled. Last January, prices between 1.80 and 1.90 were seen in Kentucky.

According to Triple A, last week's average price in Kentucky was 2.23, down 9 cents from the previous week.

The national average price for gas is $2.51. That's down 4 cents since last week, but almost 25 cents higher than last January.
