The Graves County Sheriff's Office says deputies were advised of a reckless driver on U.S. 45 North traveling into Graves County from McCracken County around 6:00 pm. A deputy located the vehicle on KY 1241, at which time the vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and almost struck the deputy's cruiser.
When deputies tried to make a traffic stop, the vehicle allegedly swerved into the oncoming lane and almost struck a deputy's cruiser head-on.
After stopping the vehicle, deputies allegedly saw the driver, 29-year-old Burl Morris of Hickory, hide a small bag of pills on the passenger side of the vehicle. Deputies determined that Morris was under the influence and placed him under arrest. Deputy jailers later found more unidentified pills on Morris during booking.
Morris was lodged in the Graves County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, wanton endangerment, wanton endangerment of a police officer, promoting contraband, tampering with physical evidence, possession of controlled substance and multiple traffic violations.
