That means the 2nd District House race will appear on the ballot twice; once for the unexpired term and once for the regular term, which begins Jan. 8, 2013.
The deadline to file to run for the unexpired term is 4 pm Oct. 9 and candidates must file at the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office in Frankfort. The filing fee is $200.
Late last year, Nesler announced that he would not be seeking an 11th term in office. He resigned his seat in the state legislature May 31 to take an administrative post in the Department of Agriculture.
Democrat Kelly Whitaker and Republican Richard Heath are running in the regular election. It’s up to the local Republican and Democratic committees to decide if Whitaker and Heath will run in the special election.
The 2nd House District is comprised of all of Graves County and four precincts in southern McCracken County.
