Graves County Judge-Executive Jesse Perry has appointed a new sheriff for Graves County to serve until a special election can be held.

Jon Hayden, former McCracken County Sheriff, was named Thursday afternoon by Perry at the Graves County Courthouse, and was sworn in by Circuit Judge Tim Stark.

Coroner Brad Jones has been acting sheriff after the death of Sheriff Dewayne Redmon on February 16th.

Since Redmon's passing, the county has not been able to collect taxes from residents, since the sheriff is bonded to do so, but the coroner is not.

Sheriff Hayden commented, "This is my home county. The former sheriff was someone that I've known my whole life. I really believe that he would have wanted me to try to finish this term for him. It's my home county, Judge-executive Perry indicated that they needed someone to come in and try to unite the department."

Hayden, a native of Graves County, and graduate of Fancy Farm High School, has been in law enforcement for twenty nine years, and served twelve years as the McCracken County Sheriff. He and his wife recently moved back to Graves County.
