The National Weather Service in Paducah says the heat will stick around well into the next week, and could approach heat advisory levels in some areas.

We could also see a few thunderstorms Thursday night, with locally heavy rain and gusty winds possible.

The heat will maintain or even build gradually through the weekend, possibly stretching into Wednesday. Forecasters expect temperatures in the low-to-mid-90s, but a heat index between 100 and 105 or possibly higher.

An index over 105 typically leads officials to issue a heat advisory or excessive heat warning to people spending time outdoors.

Expect daily thunderstorm chances focused primarily during the heat of the afternoon, with heavy rain and lightning as the primary storm hazards.
