Heat and humidity could combine for uncomfortable conditions this afternoon, and could also bring thunderstorms to the area.
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement saying temperatures in the 90s and high humidity could cause heat index values to reach 100-105 before temperatures begin dropping in the evening.
There is also a small chance of thunderstorms along and west of the Mississippi River, with locally heavy rain and lightning as the main hazards. Any storms may bring some temporary relief to oppressing heat.
A chance of storms also exists on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
