The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is alerting holiday travelers that an extended work zone along I-24 will have to remain up over the Memorial Day weekend.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said lane restrictions along I-24 from the 52 to 69 mile marker will remain up over the holiday weekend and throughout the summer months. There will be no construction activity in the work zone during the holiday. However, travelers should be prepared for possible delays due to high traffic volume.
Westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane over the 17-mile stretch of highway. Eastbound traffic will experience shorter stretches of lane restrictions in four different locations along the same stretch of highway.
The westbound work zone includes a maximum 15' load width restriction due to the use of a centerline barrier wall.
Motorists can monitor the work zone for potential traffic backups by checking the traffic monitoring features at GoKY.ky.gov or by downloading the WAZE app.
