The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane on the Interstate 24 Cumberland River Bridge starting Monday. The lane restriction is to allow the use of a Snooper Truck to conduct a detailed inspection of the bridge at I-24 mile point 33.7 at the Livingston-Lyon County Line.

The inspection will require a lane restriction for eastbound traffic on Monday and Tuesday. The inspection will require a westbound lane restriction on Wednesday and Thursday. Drivers  should expect to encounter a lane restriction from approximately 8:30 am to approximately 3 pm each day. Drivers should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach this work zone.

This structural inspection is scheduled on a weather permitting basis. All Kentucky bridges get a detailed inspection every two years and long-span bridges that cross rivers and lakes get an additional walk-through inspection annually.

The Interstate 24/Interstate 69 Cumberland River Bridge is a twin continuous plate girder structure that opened to traffic in 1977. The 1,731ft. twin structures with a 420 ft. main span, also known as the Ralph Smith Bridge, are located at the Livingston-Lyon County Line at I-24 mile point 33.7. The structures carry approximately 24,100 vehicles across the Cumberland River in an average day.
