The Livingston County Circuit Court Clerk says the murder trial of Tyler Jones has been delayed until early next year.

Jones appeared before Judge C.A. "Woody" Woodall on Wednesday. Jones' public defender, Audrey Lee, asked for the trial to be pushed back since she was not the original attorney in the case and she needed to review more evidence.

Woodall granted the motion, and moved the trial date from October 17 to March 16, 2020. Pre-trial conferences are scheduled to be held on December 18 and February 14.

The trial is expected to last five days.

Jones was charged with murder after 15-year-old Peyton Hurt of Boaz was shot at a Ledbetter party in June 2018. Witnesses told state police Jones shot the girl after an argument about Jones' fiance'.

Jones also faces burglary and tampering with evidence charges.

The case of Jones' fiance', Alexis Johnson, who faces a charge of hindering prosecution of Jones, was severed from his case on Wednesday. Johnson has a separate pretrial conference on December 18.
