Symsonia Fire Chief Michael Kaler said firefighters were dispatched just after 10:00 pm. Kaler said the primary fire was located under the store in the crawlspace area. He said the location of the fire made it difficult to extinguish due to very high heat and heavy smoke conditions being trapped underneath the store.
The fire was contained just after midnight Sunday. Firefighters remained at the scene until about 3:00 am to ensure all hotspots had been extinguished.
Kaler said the main level of the store sustained heavy smoke damge. He said the crawlspace sustained extensive damage.
Twenty firefighters from six different departments assisted in extinguishing the fire. No injuries were reported.
