Besides the Presidential primary, voters across the WestKyStar.com area will be voting for State Representative, U.S. Congressman, Mayor, City Council and Circuit Clerk.
Incumbent First District State Representative Steven Rudy is running unopposed in the Republican Primary after challenger Kevin Brown dropped out of the race earlier this year.
The First District covers Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton, Hickman and McCracken counties.
Meanwhile, Charles Kendall Hatchett and James Buckmaster are both seeking the Democratic nomination for the First Congressional District seat now held by incumbent Republican Ed Whitfield. Whitfield is running unopposed and will face either Hatchett or Buckmaster in November.
In Crittenden County, voters will choose between Vanda Hunt Adamson and Melissa Dawn Guill for Circuit Clerk.
Four people are running to fill the seat of retiring Second District State Representative, Democrat Fred Nesler of Mayfield.
On the Republican side, it’s Richard Heath going up against Patrick Fisher for the nomination.
Former Mayfield Mayor Arthur Byrn is challenging Kelly Whitaker for the Democratic nomination.
The Second District covers all of Graves and a part of McCracken County, where voters living in the Florence Station, Harper #1 and #2 and Melber area will also vote in this race.
In Hickman County, Democrats Cinda Bailey Yates and Dawn Mathis are both running for Circuit Clerk.
Lyon County voters will also choose between Democrats Chrissy Knoth and Rebecca “Becky” Howard for Circuit Clerk.
In Marshall County, Melonie Chambers and Carla Marshall are running for Circuit Clerk in the Democratic primary.
Six are running for Benton City Council in the Democratic primary. They are Jeff Wiseman, Charles Edmonds, Bill Thorpe, Glen Brewer, Rita Dotson, Chris Freeland and Stanley “Butch” Holland.
Six are also running for Hardin City Council in the Democratic primary. They are Stacey Brewer, Gary Freeman, Ronnie J. Black, William “Bill” Elkins, Lyn Henderson, Dina Byers, Don Maupin, Donnie Ray Birdsong and Doug Hon.
In McCracken County, Paducah City Commissioner Gerald Watkins is the Democratic nominee for the 3rd District State Representative seat now held by Republican Brent Housman of Paducah after Keith Hodge withdrew. Housman is not running for another term.
Republican Jason Crockett of Paducah is running unopposed for Housman’s seat and will face either Watkins or Hodge in November.
Four people are running to become the next mayor of Paducah. They are Paducah City Commissioner Gayle Kaler, Former Paducah City Commissioner Robert Coleman, McCracken County Deputy Judge-Executive Doug Harnice and Charles Ringstaff.
Nineteen people are running to fill four Paducah City Commissioner seats including two current and one former city commissioner.
Current City Commissioners Richard Abraham and Carol Gault along with former City Commissioner David Guess join Frank Schuler, Eric Youngblood, Jeanie Embry, Rodney Worak, Sr., Shelley E. Keeling, Sr., Michele Thomas, Raynarldo Henderson, Brandon Hall, Sandra Wilson, Brian Shemwell, Robert C. Cherry, Jr., Mark “Atlas” Foglesong, Peter J. Steyn, Allan Rhodes, Lennis Thompson and Shirley Trail Lanier in that race.
Polls will be open on May 22 from 6 am to 6 pm.
