The Land Between the Lakes Association has set a big goal as it's New Year's resolution: raise $200,000 to replace the current projector inside the Golden Pond Planetarium at Land Between the Lakes. It's a resolution designed to help the organization continue to introduce astronomy and love of science to thousands. Over 28,000 people visited the facility in the past year, which offers educational programming throughout the day five days a week and laser shows at night.

Friends of Land Between the Lakes Executive Director John Rufli said “The replacement projector will improve the quality and clarity of the program images, allow more versatility in our offerings and let us to produce original content. Environmental education is a key mission for LBLA and the planetarium is a primary way to reach adults and children."

The current projector is over five years old and is approaching the end of its service life. The manufacturer will no longer support this equipment with parts and service. The failure of this equipment would mean the closure of the planetarium.

You can help the Friends of Land Between the Lakes keep their resolution. Rufli said "We welcome support at any amount and hope everyone will consider the importance and unique nature of the planetarium in Western Kentucky and Tennessee."

Donations may be made by contacting Rufli at jrufli@friendsoflbl.org, at 270-924-2077 or by mail to Friends of Land Between the Lakes, 345 Maintenance Road, Golden Pond, KY 42211, indicating the planetarium project.

Land Between the Lakes Association (Friends of Land Between the Lakes) is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to work with public and private stakeholders to educate, improve, promote, conserve, and provide stewardship for the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.
