Meteorologists and hydrologists from the Paducah National Weather Service office briefed everyone on updates to the NWS forecast and warnings. For example, the NWS will now be issuing warnings for snow squalls, which are intense but brief periods of localized moderate to heavy snowfall with gusty winds and limited visibility.
As for the outlook for this winter, Mike York, the winter weather program leader and forecaster with the National Weather Service in Paducah says it's a tough call, because we do not have either an El Niño or La Niña event occurring which can affect weather patterns.
"Officially the winter outlook calls for near normal temperatures and precipitation," York said. "We do have a lot of variability in the winters throughout our area though, so we'll probably have periods of colder than normal and warmer than normal weather throughout the winter."
