The Lone Oak Lady Flash were hands down the best team in the First Region this season, proving so last week by adding a First Region Championship to their region best 35-4 record. However, the Lady Flash will have to play their best softball of the season if they hope to extend their season in the Rawlings/KHSAA Softball State Tournament.
The Lady Flash, playing in their first state tournament since 2001, finished the season ranked 17th in the final coaches poll, but still face quite a battle if they are to add a state title to their impressive resume. Ten of the 16 teams in the tournament are ranked and five top-10 teams are in Lone Oak's bracket.
Lone Oak will face 7th ranked Green County (37-3) at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
Green County has already won a state title this season after defeating Livingston Central in the Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic. Their opponent en route to the title was a familiar foe to the Lady Flash. Green County defeated Heath, a team that plays in the same district as Lone Oak, to advance to the All "A" title game.
The Lady Flash are currently riding a 10-game win streak. Their last loss come at the hands of Christian County in the Lady Colonel Classic on May 12. A loss that snapped a season high 16-game win streak.
Should the Lady Flash advance past Green County they will face the either Owensboro Catholic, ranked 9th in the state, or unranked Johnson County on Friday.
