"Our college is grateful to claim exceptional alumni like Trent Lovett who go out of their way to serve their communities and school systems, to affect change and to act as positive role models," said Dr. David Whaley, dean of the College of Education and Human Services. "With more than 30 years of commitment to education in Marshall County, Trent was an obvious choice for this honor."
Lovett earned his bachelor's degree from Murray State in 1988 with a major in mathematics and a minor in physics. He later earned his master's degree in education from the University in 1998.
Lovett began his teaching career in the fall of 1988 at South Marshall Middle School and has been with the Marshall County School District for more than 30 years. After serving seven years in the classroom as a math and science teacher, he became the dean of students at North Marshall Middle School and moved on to the role of principal one year later. Upon completing seven years at North Marshall Middle, Lovett was named principal of Marshall County High School and continued to serve there for four years. In 2008, he became the superintendent of the Marshall County School District and has been serving in that capacity ever since.
Throughout his career, Lovett has served on several committees and boards, including the Local Superintendent Advisory Council, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Controls, the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Marshall County Park Board. He has also served as a board member for several little league organizations.
In addition to being recognized at the college's annual alumni breakfast, Lovett was honored during the University's Homecoming Parade. As the college's outstanding alumnus, Lovett rode as passenger in a 1930s Ford Model A owned and driven by his former teacher, Bobby Toon, who is also an alumnus of the college and a retired educator.
