Man Appears in Court on 2017 Sex Abuse Charges
By West Kentucky Star Staff
CADIZ - A man who was brought back to Kentucky from the Philippines to face sex abuse charges was in Trigg County Circuit Court Wednesday.

WKDZ reports that 39-year-old Richard Baker was arraigned before Judge C.A. Woodall, where he faces charges of first-degree sodomy of a victim under 12 and promoting a minor in a sex performance.

The charges stem from a 2017 investigation into the abuse of a child while Baker lived in Trigg county, and he was indicted in May of 2018. Kentucky State Police learned that Baker was working overseas, so they worked with Interpol and the US Marshals Service to detain him on February 8. Baker was flown back to the United States and was extradited to Christian County Jail on April 30.

Judge Woodall appointed a public defender for Baker, and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. A pretrial conference has been scheduled for July 10.
