A person's body has been found in Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area.

Sgt. Tony Dunker with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife tells West Kentucky Star the body was located Thursday morning in the Pisgah Bay area of LBL.

Dunker said several friends had rented a houseboat and a couple of jon boats for recreation and fishing. Friends say 59-year-old Garrett O'Brian of Oaklawn, Illinois left the group against their wishes in a jon boat around dark. They said he went to scout for fishing areas for the next day.

Several hours later, well after dark, the friends say O'Brian hadn't returned, so at first light they took the other jon boat to look for him.

Dunker said they found the boat around 7:00 am, but their friend wasn't there, so they called Kentucky State Police, which contacted Fish and Wildlife. He said the boat had apparently run aground at a high rate of speed and hit a tree. The engine appeared to have continued running until it ran out of gas.

Dunker said O'Brian's body was found around 8:30-9:00 am.

It's suspected that alcohol use may have been involved in the incident, but foul play is not suspected in O'Brian's death. Dunker said the Lyon County Coroner's office has taken the man's body to Madisonville for an autopsy.
