A Louisville man is facing escape charges after fleeing from the Marshall County Jail.

According to the Kentucky State Police, on Sunday at approximately 7 PM, Troopers were notified by detention center staff that a prisoner had just escaped from behind the detention center, and was allegedly running towards Benton.

Officers began searching the area, and were able to locate the suspect a short time later in a nearby parking lot. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody. Troopers identified the man as 30-year-old Justin Smith of Louisville. Smith had been incarcerated since 2016 on various charges out of Shelby County.

Smith is now facing additional charges of second degree escape, and second degree fleeing and evading. He was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
