According to Marshall County Sheriff Eddie McGuire, illegal pills are circulating in the area. McGuire says the pills look like Xanax "bars" prescribed by a doctor, but they're not. He says the pills circulating in the area are purchased illegally from overseas and contain amounts of Fentanyl, a dangerous drug, even in trace amounts.
McGuire says Xanax "bars" are popular among youth who experiment with pharmaceutical drugs. The drug comes in the form of a small white bar that is scored so it can be broken into smaller doses. McGuire says if someone consumes a pill laced with Fentanyl, an overdose or death is likely to occur.
McGuire is urging parents to talk to their teens and preteens about this dangerous drug. Anyone with questions or information is urged to contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Office or your local law enforcement agency.
