Prohibition in the City of Mayfield has come to an end.

Voters approved packaged alcohol sales by a 388-vote margin in Tuesday's special election. There were 1,356 “Yes” votes and 968 “No” votes.

The “Yes” votes carried all nine precincts.

Graves County Clerk Barry Kennemore said turnout for Tuesday's local option election was 37.5 percent.

Packaged alcohol sales in the city limits will not begin immediately. The city will have to set hours of operation and other rules for businesses seeking the different types of alcohol sales licenses.

The Kentucky Department of Alcohol Beverage Control also must approve and license firms wanting to sell any type of alcohol.
