Larry Douglas of Metropolis may be a Democrat, but he is first and foremost a history lover. So there isn't anywhere he would rather be than at the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.

"Basically I saw the President come up from being state senator to senator and to president and second-term president. And it's history. I'm a history buff. Believe it or not, I was here for George Bush's first inaugural. It's all history. Our capitol is wonderful to be here and celebrate and also talk to people from all over the country."

Douglas said the crowd Monday wasn't as big as the one for Obama's first inauguration four years ago.

He plans to spend more time in Washington DC as he will be retiring soon from his job as Massac County Emergency Management Coordinator. "I could spend months here," he said, "just visiting museums and libraries."
