The owners of a local funeral home and cremation business have purchased the building previously owned by Filbeck-Cann and King in Benton.
Milner and Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services Marketing Director Mary Beth Orr confirmed the purchase to West Kentucky Star Wednesday morning. She said owners Randy and Andrea Orr bought the property at a recent judicial sale for $276,000.
The property's former owners, Timothy A. King and Becky Watson pleaded guilty last April to charges of insurance fraud, forgery and theft. The charges stemmed from complaints by customers who said they paid the funeral home to buy insurance policies that were never actually purchased. King was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 100 hours of community service as part of his plea agreement. Watson was sentenced to 30 days house arrest and 200 hours of community service. The pair's license to operate the business was also suspended, and they were ordered to pay $360,000 in restitution.
King and Watson reportedly owed Heritage Bank more than $281,000, and were in default from a 2017 loan modification agreement. Graves County Circuit Judge Tim Stark filed an order on Jan. 30 in Marshall County Circuit Court ordering the sale of the property.
Orr added they should receive the deed to the property within 30 days.
