Murray Mayor Jack Rose has declared a local state of emergency after storms moved through the area Saturday evening, leaving damage in their wake.

According to a press release from the city,  the state of emergency will be in effect until March 5. The city is reportedly working with the Calloway County Department of Emergency Services to assess damage from the severe weather, and implement a cleanup and restoration effort.

The state of emergency declaration will aid in speeding up cleanup efforts and applying for FEMA funds available to assist in the process.
