According to the Murray Police Department, in 1962, President Kennedy named May 15 National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 lands was named National Police Week.
Annually during this week, the Murray Police Department holds a ceremony to honor all of the law enforcement officers that have lost their lives in the line of duty. Due to the pandemic, they will not be holding a ceremony at this time. However, the Murray Police Department still want to remember the sacrifices made by all 149 officers who have died in the line of duty in 2019, as well as the 73 that died in the line of duty in 2020.
Murray officers are asking everyone to take a moment this week to be mindful of the officers across the country and the Commonwealth that have made the ultimate sacrifice for the community.
