The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down for a short time in northern Trigg County on Monday afternoon.

According to WKDZ, Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin confirmed that a low-level EF-1 tornado with winds up to 90 mph touched down and damaged homes and several trees in the Rockcastle area. Shanklin said the tornado touched down along the shoreline behind Blue River Road and followed a northeasterly path through the neighborhood.

The path of the tornado was approximately 130 yards wide and traveled more than half a mile. He said eyewitnesses reported a waterspout in Lake Barkley after the tornado damaged the neighborhood.

A tornado warning was issued for the area that was affected by the storm in northern Trigg County and portions of nearby counties. A heavy wind gust of 85 mph was reported in northern Christian County a short time later.
