This week is National Fire Prevention Week, and area fire department leaders encourage people to participate by reviewing fire escape plans at their home.
Melissa Combs is with Marshall County Emergency Management. She says the focus this year is to develop two ways out of the home.
Combs says it's important for parents to teach their children how to escape their home in the event that parents cannot get to them. Additionally, it's important to have a family meeting place outside the house, and to practice the plan during both daytime and night time hours.
Combs says parents may want to give their child a line to remember, such as "get low and go."
