New Program Offers Rides to Work for $100 a Month

Folks in Graves County have a new option to help them get to work.

The Mayfield Chamber of Commerce says Graves Strategic Development, Graves County Economic Development, Mayfield Graves Tourism Commission, the City of Mayfield and the Graves County Fiscal Court have partnered with Fulton County Transit Authority to introduce a new “Ride to Work” program. According to a press release, the program was designed to provide a safe, affordable, and reliable option for transportation to work by purchasing a “Bus Pass” for $100 per month. The fee covers rides to and from any place of employment in the county, and allows residents to be picked up and dropped at their homes by appointment instead of using designated bus stops.

“Finding a reliable, cost-effective way for people to get to and from work is a big challenge for every community," said Ryan Drane with Graves County Economic Development. "Graves Strategic Development was very pleased to partner with FCTA to create this outside-the-box idea that will provide reliable transportation for our workforce. We believe that this plan will increase workforce attendance, improve the quality of life for those employees, and make the participating companies stronger and better positioned for future growth.” 

Bob McNutt, Human Resources Manager at Mayfield Consumer Products, said the new service will be a big help to the company and its employees.

Our mission is to provide safe and affordable transportation to the public and getting citizens to work is just as important as getting citizens to medical appointments. When I talked to the Graves Strategic Development group and local industry leaders, one top of the top issues was transportation to and from work, so those conversations inspired us to create a new, affordable program and extend our operating hours to better serve the community.”
