A vehicle-pedestrian collision Monday night in Mayfield left one person dead and another facing charges.

According to the Graves County Sheriff's Office, the collision happened around 6 pm on US 45 North. Upon arrival, deputies found one person lying in the road unresponsive. Around that same time, Kentucky State Police received a call from a woman on Dorothy Lane who said she had hit a deer on US 45 North and needed to make a report.

Troopers went to Dorothy Lane and determined that the vehicle was involved in the pedestrian collision on US 45. During the investigation it was determined that Jasemine Rupcke, of Mayfield, was driving a minivan southbound on US 45 when she struck a pedestrian and continued driving to a friend's home on Dorothy Lane. Both Rupcke and her passenger told police they thought they hit a deer.

The pedestrian, Amanda Czerwien, of Mayfield, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Graves County Coroner. Deputies say Czerwien had just finished work at Pilgrim's Pride and was walking home when she was struck.

Rupcke was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid/assist with death/serious physical injury, failure to produce insurance card, failure to register transfer of motor vehicle and no operator's license. Rupcke was lodged in the Graves County Jail.
