A two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Calloway County claimed one man's life and left another man hospitalized.

According to the Calloway County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened at 4:30 pm on Palmer Road. Deputies said a vehicle driven by Stephen Reed of Dexter was traveling west and began to accelerate when it approached the stop sign at Kirksey Highway.

Another vehicle, driven by 50-year-old Linda Beach of Murray, was traveling north on Kirksey Highway, approaching Palmer Road. Police said Reed failed to stop at the stop sign and traveled into the path of Beach's vehicle.

Beach's vehicle struck Reed's vehicle in the driver's door, sending both vehicles off the road. Reed's vehicle then struck a house at the corner of Washer Road and Kirksey Highway.

Deputies said Reed was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed by mechanical means. He was taken to Murray-Calloway County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A passenger in Reed's vehicle, 25-year-old Bradley Donnell of Hardin, was also transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital. He was later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Beach was not injured in the crash.
