According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, deputies were assisting the Benton Police Department with the shoplifting complaint.
Deputies arrived on the scene and attempted to contact the suspect. Upon contact, Christopher Fontana of Paducah, attempted to flee on foot, and was quickly apprehended.
He was charged with 2nd degree fleeing or evading police.
An investigation into the original complaint is being conducted by the Benton Police Department, with other charges pending.
