The Mayfield Police Department says officers responded to the 900 block of West Broadway for a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. After investigating, officers learned that the pedestrian, 62-year-old James Gray of Mayfield, was under the influence of alcohol.
A witness told police that Gray was walking in the roadway, and had almost been hit moments before he walked into the path of a car driven by a 17-year-old girl. The girl was not injured.
Gray was transported by ambulance to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. He was then placed under arrest and lodged in the Graves County Jail .
Gray is charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place - 3rd or more offense in 12 months and hitchhiking - disregard of traffic regulation by a pedestrian.
